This show started off with the giant 1977.  That date was very important to the director.  Originally this unit was to be made in to a plexi glass enclosure.  That option was a bit to expensive and we ended up just doing an MDF backing with a wacky wood reveal.  Electrics then came in and made it light up.  Each number is a wagon and rolls off individually.
There were numerous portals that flew in and out.  Each header and leg were covered with painted muslin.  The muslin was added during load in after flats were bolted together to minimize seams.

The band in this show lived on this wagon and rolled on and offstage.  This unit was quite heavy.  It is all steel construction.
The trick in this show was a railing all the way downstage that lifted out of the floor.  Attached to the winch, below, the whole system was run off a laptop computer.
