Originally from Bordentown, NJ, Serge Gountas holds a BFA in Theatrical Production Arts from Ithaca College. Currently he is in the third year of the Masters Program in Stage Automation at the North Carolina School of the Arts. Course and production work has allowed for training in the design, manufacture, installation, and operation of stage machinery. Other areas of study include: mechanical design, structural design, motors and motor controls, hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, machining, computer control systems, computer-aided drafting, and rigging. Professionally Serge began working in summer stock and regional theatres as a carpenter. Theatres included: Connecticut Repertory Theatre, Maine State Music Theatre, The Old Globe Theatre, and the McCarter Theatre. For the last four years Serge has worked at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, the last two as Technical Director. When not in the theatre Serge enjoys to travel. While enrolled at Ithaca College Serge spent a semester abroad in London working at the Royal National Theatre. During that semester he also had the opportunity to travel to numerous points within England as well as Ireland, Scotland, France, Italy and Greece.
